We want to keep you informed about upcoming professional development opportunities.  On this front page, we will endeavor to keep you up to date with the latest PD.  As we develop our wiki, we'll add pages for other types of PD, such as books, articles, online courses, webcasts and more.  So keep coming back!  New additions will be identified with a icon.   If you have information to be posted, please email pd68@bctf.ca .  Or request to become a writer yourself!

PSA DAY!!

 

Creating Connections:

with each other, to techology, to new ideas.

 

Would you love to have TIME to engage in a professional development opportunity with other colleagues. TIME to have a deeper conversation around educational issues that are important to you? TIME to collaborate with others? Then look no further. Here is your chance to get inspired by the knowledge and expertise of your colleagues and to share your ideas.  

 

Start the day with LIVE STREAMED VIDEO of CUEBC keynote David Warlick on Embracing Emerging Technologies.

Technology Exploration  Shelley Beleznay  We'll do a quick tour of some wonderful places and then work in pairs or small groups to focus on one or two tools we'd like to explore or resources we'd like to build.   
French Immersion Teachers K-7  Julie Grant  Create a French Immersion Scope and Sequence.  Bring your ideas and materials you would like to share. Contact Julie at 250-754-6845 for more information
Brain Friendly Strategies for the Classroom  Jan Thorsen  There is so much information out there about how our students learn best.  We will discuss books such as Judy Willis' "Brain Friendly Strategies for the Class" along with "Brain Rules" by John Medina.  Come with your own ideas and suggestions as well. 
Music Teachers  Kirsten Verhoeven  The Nanaimo Association of Music Educators will be hosting a session to review and learn about technology to support school concerts with sound and lighting as a focus.  A conversation around ukele instruction to follow.  BYOU ...bring your own uke! 
Working with SMART Boards K-7 Sandy Askham  Come explore new curriculum resources to use for your SmartBoard.  Bring any ideas and lesson plans you have found or developed as well. 
Library Conversations  Linda Irvine   
Postive focus on Managing Paperwork for SSTs  Maureen Hancock  We will be sharing strategies and ideas that work with the diversity of the SST job and the students we work with. Please come with ideas, suggestions and strategies that have worked for you.
Secondary Counsellors  Pam Manson  What programs are available in your school to support students?  Let's discuss the options out there such as Girls' Groups, Scholarship Group, Alternative Lifestyles ....... 
Kindergarten Conversations  Jaime Skarbo  Bring your ideas and suggestions for a sharing session. 
Secondary Special Ed Teachers  Sona Rayner  We will discuss best practices and practical classroom strategies specific to special education for secondary students. 
Exploring iPads and iPods Shelley Beleznay We'll have a few iPods and iPads or bring your own.  Get together with colleagues to play and think about how these devices could be used for learning.
